A Quiet Place Part II forgot how the first movie ended
Main Post:
The first entry in the A Quiet Place series ended right after the family figured out how to kill the monsters. They show the CCTV feed they have set up to see a swarm of monsters approaching, it cuts to Emily Blunt, who cocks her shotgun, before a cut to black. Badass ending, obviously teasing a sequel.
Then, the sequel came! And, after the prequel prologue, opens up to them...just walking out of the basement. No battle with the monsters, no (what would have admittedly been an extremely disappointing) simple shot of dead monsters on the ground anywhere...just nothing.
How do you forget your own film's badass ending and not follow up on that?!
Top Comment: It bothers me people on the island knew water was safer, but decided to use a coded message, instead of just telling people water is safe.
"A quiet place 2" is the rare sequel so bad that it retroactively ruins the original. (Major spoilers)
Main Post:
John krasinski should have let someone, anyone else handle the writing because the sound and cinematography are let down by a script I think he wrote in crayon on the back of an Uno's placemat.
In no particular order.
WHy didn't the safe island with a radio station make announcements that the fucking aliens can't fucking swim. Would have saved the harbor hillbillies at the very least.
You don't even have to tell them where you are. Instead you play over the sea as some sort of idiot riddle.
The first movie made explicit that the aliens landed in Mexico and the army was unable to stop their progressive march in news articles on leighs big board.
Sequel says fuck that, aliens land in the back yard and boom they are ripping everyone apart like soft bread popsicles. Hard to publish a paper on noisy presses with them scything through the town.
When the daughter gets to the island why doesn't she immediately insist on using THEIR ONLY VIABLE WEAPON. Not only to protect you know everybody but also her family with a crying death magnet baby.
This movie is so so sadly dumb. The first one had some silly moments but got a pass from nice details and a tight contained story but this one sucks cabbage farts and blows holes in the first too.. at least I think so
Top Comment: No sequel retroactively ruins the original work. If a sequel's shit, you can always just ignore that it exists and enjoy the original as a standalone film. No one in the right mind is going to argue that The Godfather Parts 1 and 2 are now shit because Part 3 was weak. And no would claim Jaws is not a classic because it was followed by three laughable attempts at building a franchise.
A Quiet Place 2 was the most insultingly inconsistent and plot-holed film I've seen in years, and I even watched Army of the Dead.

SPOILERS AHEAD
I love John Krasinski, I loved A Quiet Place, I think his directing was fantastic despite the plot holes in that movie, but this was so unbearably inconsistent I spent nearly the entire film with my mouth open. My partner and I shared maybe 20 looks of disbelief and facepalms throughout the run time, I've detailed below some of the things that made this totally unwatchable for me, but honestly, there are too many to count, these are only things I remember from my single viewing.
- This prequel scene was amazing, it feels so cheap that they suddenly drop away from it. Yes, you wanted John in the trailer and that's the only reason this exists, you barely introduce this other guy we're meant to be invested in, but there was an actual movie here.
- Even after what happened with their son, she decides to take a 20km+ walk with her NEW BABY IN HER ARMS OUT IN THE OPEN. They have the box and the air bottle, she's entirely capable of sourcing another air bottle (as shown later in the film), but instead, they're going to walk under the expectation the baby won't cry? Yeah. OK. Also, wrap your fucking feet in something, you're literally walking over sharp rocks and sticks and shit for hours. This is particularly funny because the soon-to-be-introduced creepy murderer AKA good guy protagonist walks around with heavy boots the whole time with no issues.
- Creepy fucker who is soon going to become the good guy has set a deliberate noise trap to kill anybody who might walk through, followed by a fucking BEAR TRAP TO MAIM THEM, and is actively watching their imminent death with his sniper rifle, but doesn't fire on the approaching alien to assist them. He spends the rest of his time painting beautiful reliefs of his son though, so we'll just forget that.
- The radio is playing music, she wants to change that music to her anti-alien noise. HOW DOES THIS HELP? She thinks people will have their radios on, scroll to the station with the high pitch horrible tone and then leave it there long enough to understand it's brutal for the aliens? What is this meant to fucking accomplish? (I'm going to skip over the fact that apparently, nobody thought to blast the hearing-based aliens with various sound tones etc. during the earth-destroying invasion, since this was a preexisting issue with the first movie).
- Just go around the train carriage. What are you even trying to loot for here? Why don't the aliens come running when the birds take off screaming loudly enough to jump scare the whole audience? Why are these aliens so sound sensitive you need to creep around, but opening and closing giant metal doors and hatches seems to be dead silent.
- Zombie noose girl apocalypse raiders scene was enough to nearly make me leave the cinema. How is this their strategy? WHY DO THEY LOOK LIKE ZOMBIES AFTER A YEAR OF HAVING TO BE QUIET? Everybody died so fast there's still food and medicine in the local pharmacy. What the fuck happened to these people? What was the noose meant to accomplish? It wasn't even tied to anything, he is able to lift it up and choke the other pirate at will.
- There are 12, perfect condition, fully fueled, moored boats the zombie raiders never thought to use. Apparently, there was such a run on the other pier that people sunk the boats, but this ENTIRE PIER was left perfectly fine, even though apparently people figured out they couldn't swim.
- You figured out our cryptic secret song hint to reach the island! We thought we'd do this instead of a voice recording, we'd almost given up hope anybody would come find us, not a single person did, but we never thought to stop using a frank Sinatra vinyl as our only clue. Also, it's a vinyl on an old turntable, wouldn't the shit need to be reset constantly? Finally if she was so focused on getting to this place, how come she spends all this time hanging out instead of going up and achieving her objective?
- Does this signal need to be fucking loud or what? Can it be quiet, can it be loud? Why do they have to crank the amplifier sometimes and other times her stupid earpiece is enough by itself.
- Despite her horrible panic at being left deaf earlier in the movie, and absolute fixation on the acquisition of that hearing aid during the first movie, she's all good with leaving it dangling over the microphone from now on.
- Here we are. Now that you're permanently properly deaf and you've made this epic dangerous journey to the island (where you indirectly killed half the population) how are you going to go get your bear-trap-legged brother, screaming infant, and newly injured mother? Maybe that can be the plot line for A Quiet Place 3, where we can get another 2 minute intro with John Krasinski for the trailer.
Top Comment: Wow, you're one nitpicky person. 1 - I mean, not much to say here. Yes it cuts away. It was just meant to introduce their relationship with Cillian and how much they miss John. 2 - I mean... Yeah. Maybe they're more neurotic about noise than Cillian is. Double masking while Cillian is just doing the single. 3 - uhhhh... I feel like you misunderstood his character completely. He's not a good guy, especially not in the beginning. He wants them to die and only helps them once he realizes they have a way to stop the aliens. You're not supposed to forget any of this. 4 - It literally helps in the end. That's how it helps. I dunno what else to say. People who sync to that station will have a weapon against the aliens, how is that not effective? She can spread the message in the future and people will be better for it. 5 - Yeah, whatever, people make stupid decisions sometimes. 6 and 7 - I'm not gonna touch the pier stuff cause I agree it was pretty dumb. 8 - I feel like this is very nitpicky. Some turntables loop. She was telling people her plan before just doing it. People could check the location of the station like she did. They maybe didn't want everyone coming over? Lots of explanations. 9 - I also feel like this is pretty nitpicky. Its better amplified, but maybe in a closed small space it's effective by itself at least for a bit. 10 - she wasn't panicking at being left deaf, she was panicking and being left alone and without her main weapon. 11 - uhhh... Yeah. I don't understand. You're upset it ended? That's maybe the sequel, maybe it's as simple as just walking slowly with them carrying a portable radio, who cares.

Djimon Hounsou got rekt lmao. Poor guy.
The movie ended kind of abruptly but it was a solid sequel. I’d keep watching these as long as Krasinski is still making them. So much tension and such great use of sound.
